Can anyone tell me of locations that are open to the public for hunting? I have never hunted in East Texas but would like to start this year.

If you check out Texas Parks and Wildlife's website they have all the necessary things you'll need to hunt on public lands. Everything from the permits you'll need to do this

maps of public land you can hunt on. It can be really helpful because they have the areas all mapped out on pdfs which you can print off.

If you are hunting a non game species such as rabbits or feral hogs do you still need a type 2 permit to enter the public lands?
Can you hunt public lands all year round for non game species if you have a valid hunting license and type 2 permit?

Up by Lone Star lake and Lake of the Pines there is some great hunting land that I belive does not require a Type 2 license. I duck hunt there all the time. I not sure how the rabbit or deer hunting is, but the ducks are plentiful.
Directions: Take Hwy 259 North from Longview, past the Hwy 155 intesection turn left on FM 557, then take an immediate right on 4428 and follow this road till you cross a bridge the take the first dirt road to your left.
Good hunting, let me know if you wanna shoot some ducks!
