DEFENSIVE SHOOTING CONCEPTS

This class will provide instruction to those who already possess a Texas License to Carry Handgun (LTC) in concepts of defensive shooting well beyond what is covered in their initial LTC class. The focus will be on defensive shooting from concealment, with students participating in range exercises to enhance their defensive skills. Approximately 1 hour will be spent in the classroom followed by training taking place on the range performing live fire drills for the remainder of the class. Two qualification courses of fire that incorporate techniques practiced in the range drills will be conducted. Students who successfully pass both courses of fire will receive a class certificate.
Topics covered in this class will include:
• Real world safety concepts
• Defensive mindset and situational awareness
• Drawing the firearm from concealment
• Defensive shooting from 3 – 15 yards
• Shooting under time constraints
• Shooting using cover
• Reload drills
• Malfunction drills
Tuition for this course:
$150 dollars for nonmembers / $100 for ETRPC members

Pre-registration is required, and class size will be limited to 8 students.
Required Student Gear:
• Handgun and at least one additional magazine (2 spares recommended)
• Strong side belt holster and sturdy belt designed to support the weight of a holstered handgun (KORE Belt or Nexbelt recommended
• 400 rounds of practice ammunition (reloads are OK)
• A cover garment that completely covers the holstered handgun
• Eye Protection (prescription glasses OK) and hearing protection (Electronic hearing protection recommended)
• Cap or hat with brim
• Snacks and a sack lunch. Water will be provided. There will be no time allotted to leaving the range for lunch
• Lawn chair or stool, sunscreen and insect repellant
• Pen and notepad for notetaking on the range
• Anything else you require to spend a day outside on the range
About the Instructor: David Kidder retired from Law Enforcement after 37 years with 15 years as a full-time police academy instructor specializing in Firearms, Use of Force, Defensive Tactics and First Aid. David has been an instructor for 43 years and has been training legally armed citizens since 2013 in handgun, shotgun and carbine classes. His instructor qualifications include:
• Texas DPS certified LTC Instructor and School Safety Instructor
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor
• Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Citizen Response to Active Shooter, First Responder Medical, and Low Light Shooting Instructor
• American College of Surgeons certified Stop the Bleed Instructor
• National Rifle Association Training Counselor
• Adjunct Instructor at Range Ready in Robert, Louisiana
